How to Operate Radio-on-Demand for Dial-up

Please read this entire page carefully.

We use a method known as pseudo-streaming to deliver audio content to your computer sound system.  Streaming does not work well for dial-up users because of the connection speed and the fact that many Internet Service Providers automatically disconnect your computer every so often.

Here are suggestions on how you can use Radio-Yahweh.com with dial-up to get the best possible results.

STEP ONE

First, download and install two utilities.  They are free.

Free Download Manager 2.3.655 or higher

http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_5_173_15429.html

   BySoft StayAlive Pro 3.0

http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_5_54_25240.html

Click each link, then click the download button, then click the "software author" download link.  Make sure you download to your desktop.  When fully downloaded, click on "run" or go to the desktop and double click the file that downloaded to install.

If they give you the option to do so (usually with a check box during installation), allow them to be put in with your 'start up' items.

When you have installed these programs, reboot your computer.

Free Download Manager will accelerate any files you download 200 - 500%.
BySoft StayAlive will try to trick your Internet Service Provider into keeping you online.

If you already have a download accelerator and stay alive measures, then skip these steps.

If you use these, please do go back to the links and write a nice little review for the authors that have given you valuable software.

STEP TWO

This symbol is for dial-up users: ▼.  Clicking this symbol will download the material that it is associated with to your computer.  Make sure your download accelerator is set to your desktop so you can find what you download.

This symbol is NOT for dial-up users: ►.  Clicking this symbol will cause your computer to buffer and lock up.

Locate the audio you would like to listen to that includes this symbol ▼.  Make note of it for now, but do not click the symbol yet.  (Check back daily as more and more content will be designated for your download use).  Just make note of what you want to listen to later.

STEP THREE

A typical sermon is about 55 megabytes in length.  This will take some hours to download.  It is good to start downloading in the late evening.  Often your content will be ready on your desktop for you in the morning.  Start out by downloading one message.  (That is, clicking on the symbol.)  Your download accelerator will tell you what to do once you click the appropriate symbol.  When the download is finished (perhaps hours later), notice the time it started, the time it finished and the size of the file downloaded.  With these figures, you can tell how long it will usually take for a file to download.  (This is primarily controlled by the phone company in your area.)

A listing will sometimes look like this:

| PREACHER        | SERIES                 | TITLE                             |  PLAY  |  LOAD  |
Jackson Snyder     Bville Barn Burners   Master and Commander!

This is a VALID LISTING, so you may click the and the sermon will download.

As you get more proficient at this, you will have more and more choices.

STEP FOUR

When you are ready to listen, you may simply double click on the file(s) that downloaded earlier.  If you clicked on the example in Step Three, the file on your desktop will be

snyder-master-commander.mp3.

With some system, it just starts playing when it completes downloading. On others, you must click on the file name.  Either way, if your Windows or Mac system is correctly configured for audio and if you have speakers or headphones, the computer will do the rest.  Your music machine will pop up and the message or music will begin.

I might suggest a better music player than the default player you have on your computer - jetAUDIO.  This too is free and you can download it from here:

         http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_6_73_9326.html

I use jetAUDIO because it has all kinds of controls by which you may make the audio sound better.

STEP FIVE

Once the audio file is downloaded to your computer, you may play it as many times as you want by just double clicking on the file name.  You may download as many audio files as you want - simultaneously if you want - and even collect them and play them whenever you want.  That is Radio-on-Demand for dial-up.

Audio files take up a large amount of space.  You may burn your files onto a CD and pass the CDs on or you may send the files to the recycle bin whenever you want.  I suggest you learn to burn CDs and pass these messages on to interested persons.  If you have any trouble, contact me via the feedback form and I will help you.  A donation would help me!

Final Note:  You are allowed by law to download files by permission of the author.  If the file you want has the symbol then you may download it with confidence.  It is also legal for me to share my music collection with you as long as you listen by pseudo-streaming.  However, it is not legal to download copyrighted material - like Beethoven's Symphonies.  This is why you may see a (play) symbol but not a (download) symbol with certain files.
